With the launch of version 3.0, WordPress is a powerful, fully functional CMS; and still user-friendly!
Content management systems enable continued conversation.
A website is, above all else, a communication tool; a channel for enabling and managing a company’s conversations with its customers. Unfortunately, too many websites make an initial statement at launch, and that’s the end of the conversation for a very long time.
Content management systems (CMS) make it possible to keep the conversation going, utilizing internal staff members to make timely and important updates, showing that the company is responding to customer issues and needs.
WordPress: Evo’s Preferred CMS Platform
WordPress is an excellent CMS option for all business websites, particularly if you wish to incorporate a blog to draw search engine traffic. This website, evowebdev.com, utilizes WordPress as a CMS system, and it maximizes the benefits of our integrated blog.
Even if a blog is not part of the website, however, WordPress is our preferred CMS platform. It has added significant functionality and flexibility over the past two years, particularly with the release of WordPress 3.0, taking advantage of the entire WordPress development community’s efforts to broaden and enhance its capabilities.
WordPress has “critical mass.” Hundreds of thousands of websites are built on the platform (some of them for major companies), and tens of thousands of WordPress developers have staked their careers on the platform. An ever-growing library of WordPress plugins is available to help you do almost anything you want, and you can expect it to continue to evolve to include more capability and flexibility. WordPress is here to stay: you can count on it.
Finally, WordPress’ simple user interface makes it a favorite among website owners for ease of updates and maintenance. And a well-maintained, often updated website is a useful website. Those are the kind of sites we like to design and build.
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Content Management Systems
When clients want a CMS but do not wish to use WordPress, we implement SaaS content management systems. These are online systems that access your static web pages via FTP, makes them available to you for editing, and then places the edited version of the web page back on the server via FTP. Use of these systems is dependent on certain server requirements, so if you have your own webhosting (particularly if you host on an in-house web server), this may not be an option.
We recommend and install two different SaaS content management systems: Unify CMS from Unit Interactive, and Surreal CMS. We sell each for a $300/year subscription, which covers licensing, installation, configuration, training, and occasional assistance.
