Frequently Asked Questions

Q How much does a website cost?

A This is a difficult question to answer to most people's satisfaction, because a meaningful answer is based on a complete understanding of what the website owner wants to achieve and the specifications that result. Websites and web applications are not all the same, any more than cars, race horses, or blind dates are all the same. Will the site include web-based applications or other database-driven functionalities? Is the content web-ready? Is the information architecture envisioned by the owner adequate?

Until we have an opportunity to ask these kinds of questions and receive well-considered answers, we can only make an off-the-cuff guesstimate based on the questioner's off-the-cuff description. An important part of our process is gathering enough information to present a meaningful estimate before development begins. That helps us avoid misunderstandings after the project has begun. If the scope of work changes or grows after work begins, we can provide an adjusted estimate.

For long-term engagements, we often agree to a lower hourly rate or a set fee. A negotiated fee is also the norm for application development, subject to renegotiation for revised specifications.
